Method and apparatus for dishwasher variable fill control

A method for providing variable fill control for a dishwasher, comprising:

• (a) initiating a fill of the dishwasher;
• (b) sensing that a known fill volume of the dishwasher is reached;
• (c) measuring an amount of time between initiating the fill of the dishwasher and sensing that the known fill volume of the dishwasher is reached;
• and
• (d) calculating a dishwasher fill rate based on the known fill volume of the dishwasher and the amount of time.

A method of providing variable fill control for a dishwasher, comprising:

• opening a water valve to allow water to enter the dishwasher at a first time;
• starting a timer at the first time;
• sensing that a level sensor has triggered at a second time, the dishwasher having a known fill volume associated with the level sensor;
• and
• calculating a dishwasher fill rate based on a difference between the first time and the second time and based on the known fill volume.

A dishwasher adapted for providing variable fill times, comprising:

• an electrically controlled water valve;
• a single position digital level sensor for sensing that the dishwasher has reached a known fill level associated with a known fill volume;
• a timer for timing a period of time between a first time associated with opening of the electrically controlled water valve and a second time associated with sensing that the dishwasher has reached the known fill level;
• and
• an intelligent control electrically connected to the single position digital level sensor and electrically connected to the timer for calculating an amount of time to reach a desired fill volume based on a calculated fill rate.
