Abstract
A foundation assembly for use with expansive soils. The assembly includes a slab form, such as metal pan, for receiving poured concrete, a structural slab cast into the form, and structural members, e.g., piers, footing pads, and the like, contacting and/or extending into the soil. An elongate support member, e.g., a rectangular concrete beam, is positioned on an upper support surface of the structural members so as to contact a lower surface of the slab form. In this manner, the support member supports the slab form and structural slab and defines a void space between the soil and the slab form without the use of biodegradable materials.
Claims20
A structural foundation assembly for use in expansive soil, comprising:
- a slab form for receiving hardenable material;
- a structural slab of the hardenable material cast into the slab form;
- structural members contacting the expansive soil and extending upward and having an upper support surface;
- and
- an elongate support member positioned between and in abutting contact with a bottom surface of the slab form and the upper support surfaces of the structural members to support the slab form and structural slab a void distance above the expansive soil.
A slab assembly for use in expansive soil, comprising:
- a form defining a shape for a lower surface of a structural slab cast in the form;
- lower support members each having an upper support surface and each extending into the expansive soil;
- and
- a slab cast into the form by pouring concrete into the form, wherein the slab includes spaced apart, elongate structural ribs extending downward toward the soil on the lower surface and an elongate structural member extending substantially perpendicular to the ribs and positioned on the upper support surfaces of the lower support members.
A flooring system for positioning above soil that provides penetrations for utilities and other uses, comprising:
- a first slab form;
- a first slab section cast by pouring hardenable material into the first slab form;
- a second slab form;
- a second slab section cast by pouring hardenable material into the second slab form;
- and
- a penetration section formed of the hardenable material inserted between and integrally formed with the first and second slab sections, wherein the penetration section includes first and second elongate structural ribs abutting edges of the first and second slab sections respectively and extending beyond the first and second forms toward the soil and wherein the penetration section further includes a planar penetration slab between the first and second structural ribs through which penetrations can be formed.
A form support apparatus for use in forming foundation walls with a void space formed underneath including supporting wall panels and facilitating removal after the support wall is formed, comprising:
- a planar wall-forming member for receiving poured concrete and defining a lower surface of a foundation wall;
- a stationary side wall in abutting contact with a first edge of the wall forming member with an upper portion extending above the first edge to provide horizontal support for a first wall panel and a lower portion extending below the first edge to define a void space below the lower surface of the foundation wall;
- a bottom wall rigidly attached at a first edge to the stationary sidewall for supporting the assembly on the soil;
- a pivotable sidewall attached with hinge means for pivoting the sidewall into abutting contact with the wall-forming member to provide horizontal support for a second wall panel;
- a first form support ledge attached to and extending transversely from the stationary side wall for receiving and vertically supporting the first wall panel;
- and
- a second form support ledge attached to and extending transversely from the pivotable sidewall for receiving and vertically supporting the second wall panel.
