Abstract
A coping saw is provided having two spaced-apart rotary actuators supported by a frame. Two saw-blade sections extend between the two rotary actuators and are intended to singularly engage a work piece. The saw is adapted to contain a drive mechanism which is coupled to a first of the two rotary actuators for causing the saw-blade sections to move in at least one direction. At least one guide roller assembly is disposed each of the two saw-blade sections for providing stability and retaining said two-saw blade sections between said two rotary actuators.
Claims31
A saw, comprising in combination
- a frame assembly having a first and a second end;
- a drive pulley journaled to said first end of said frame assembly;
- a driven pulley journaled to said second end of said frame assembly;
- a continuous loop blade extending at least partially around said drive pulley and said driven pulley to provide two cutting blade segments.
A method for manufacturing a powered coping saw, comprising the steps of:
- providing a frame assembly having a first and second end;
- journaling a drive pulley and a driven pulley to opposite ends of said frame assembly;
- mounting a continuous loop blade between said drive pulley and said driven pulley to define two parallel intermediate blade sections;
- providing one of said drive and driven pulleys with an adjustment mechanism for adjusting the tension on said continuous loop blade;
- and
- providing at least one guide bearing assembly proximate each end of said two parallel intermediate blade sections.
A coping saw, comprising:
- a frame assembly
- a drive pulley journaled to one end of said frame assembly;
- a driven pulley journaled to an opposite end of said frame assembly
- a saw blade looped at least partially around said drive and driven pulleys, said saw blade having a cutting surface providing two generally parallel cutting segments;
- and
- at least one roller assembly disposed adjacent said cutting surface of said saw blade for retaining said saw blade on said drive and said driven pulley.
A method for using a coping saw on a work piece, the coping saw having a continuous loop blade extending at least partially around two spaced apart pulleys and defining two parallel blade sections, comprising the steps of:
- grasping the coping saw, at least one hand grasping a handle located at one end of the coping saw;
- energizing the coping saw to move the continuous loop blade in a predetermined rotational direction;
- engaging at least one of the two parallel blade sections with the work piece;
- moving the coping saw about at least one axis extending through the handle disposed at the one end of the coping saw to cause at least one of the two parallel blade sections to engage the work piece.
