Abstract
The present invention relates to methods for the synthesis of chiral non-racemic products, e.g., enantiomerically-enriched hemiesters, from prochiral starting materials, e.g., meso anhydrides. The present invention also relates to catalysts for the aforementioned methods, and methods for synthesizing these catalysts.
Claims26
A method of preparing a chiral, non-racemic compound from a prochiral compound, wherein said prochiral compound comprises at least two chiral centers, and an internal plane of symmetry or point of symmetry or both, comprising the step of:
- reacting a prochiral compound, wherein said prochiral compound comprises at least two chiral centers, and an internal plane of symmetry or point of symmetry or both, with a nucleophile in the presence of a chiral, non-racemic tertiary amine catalyst, thereby producing a chiral, non-racemic compound.
A method of synthesizing a chiral, non-racemic tertiary amine, comprising the step of:
- reacting a diamine with two equivalents of a chiral, non-racemic glycidyl sulfonate or halide.
