Systemic delivery of Modafinil to the nasal mucous membrane elicits rapid systemic therapeutic response with reduced side effects compared to current methods of administration.

A method for promoting wakefulness comprising administering to a mammal by nasal delivery a therapeutically effective amount of Modafinil.
The method according to claim 11, wherein said Modafinil is administered as a dry powder.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising an aqueous suspension of Modafinil for nasal administration.
A dispensable powder for nasal delivery, comprising a therapeutically effective amount of Modafinil having a particle size of less than about 100 microns.
