Abstract
The invention provides compositions and methods for treating diseases characterized by aberrant programmed cell death and/or inflammation, comprising mediating A20 function in the subject. Such diseases include Crohn's disease, inflammatory bowel disease, a disease associated with ischemic injury, a toxin-induced liver disease and cancer. The invention further provides methods and compositions for assays for modulators of A20.

A method of treating a subject for a disease characterized by aberrant levels of programmed cell death and/or inflammation, comprising mediating A20 function in the subject.
A method of treating a subject for Crohn's disease and/or inflammatory bowel disease, comprising increasing A20 function in the subject.
A method of screening for modulators of an A20-mediated process comprising obtaining a candidate substance and contacting a subject that is homozygous for an A20 negative allele with the candidate substance.
