Abstract
A seal (30) is mounted on the outer periphery of a fittable portion (11) of a housing (10), and resilient contacts (31F, 31R) at a front end of the seal (30) closely contact a receptacle (Mc) to provide sealing. The resilient contacts (31F, 31R) may be pushed back by frictional resistance during a fitting operation into the receptacle (Mc). However, steps (19, 34) prevent the resilient contacts (31F, 31R) from being pulled by the receptacle (Mc) and moved back loosely. Thus, even if the seal (30) is long along forward and backward directions and the resilient contacts (31F, 31R) are at the front end of the seal (30), the seal (30) is prevented from buckling.
Claims15
A watertight connector (F), comprising:
- a housing (10) for accommodating at least one terminal fitting (20);
- a fittable portion (11) fittable into and withdrawable from a receptacle (Mc) of a mating connector (M), the fittable portion (11) having an outer peripheral surface;
- a substantially tubular seal (30) mounted on the outer peripheral surface of the fittable portion (11) and having an outer peripheral surface with at least one resilient contact (31R;
- 31F) configured for resilient contact with an inner peripheral surface of the receptacle (Mc);
- fastening means (35;
- 37) on at least one of the fittable portion (11) and the seal (30) for preventing the seal (30) from moving forward off the fittable portion (11);
- and
- loose-movement preventing means (19;
- 34) on at least one of the fittable portion (11) and the seal (30) for preventing loose backward movement of the resilient contact (31R;
- 31F).
A watertight connector (F), comprising:
- a housing (10) for accommodating at least one terminal fitting (20), the housing (10) having a fittable portion (11) with a front end for fitting in a receptacle (Mc) of a mating connector (M), the fittable portion (11) having an outer peripheral surface formed with at least one outwardly projecting step (19) spaced rearwardly from the front end, the step (19) having an undercut front surface (19S);
- and
- a substantially tubular seal (30) having an inner surface mounted on the outer peripheral surface of the fittable portion (11) and having an outer surface with at least one resilient contact (31R;
- 31F) configured for resilient contact with an inner peripheral surface of the receptacle (Mc), the inner surface of the seal (30) having a step (34) at a longitudinal position substantially aligned with the resilient contact (31R) and engaged with the step (19) on the fittable portion (11) for preventing loose backward movement of the seal (30), fastening means (35) on the seal (30) for preventing the seal (30) from moving forward off the fittable portion (11).
