Abstract
Disclosed is a transparent polymeric diffusion film exhibiting at least 50% transmissivity containing a thermoplastic polymeric material with internal microvoids and containing a plurality of complex lenses on a surface thereof. Such films are useful for diffusing light when it is desired to provide and even light distribution.
Claims55
A transparent polymeric diffusion film exhibiting at least 50% transmissivity containing a thermoplastic polymeric material with internal microvoids and containing a plurality of complex lenses on a surface thereof.
A transparent film having a substantially circular microvoided polymer base, the film comprising a top and bottom surface, at least one of the surfaces comprising a plurality of convex or concave complex lenses.
The film 48 wherein said at least one surface is a surface of a separate polymer layer integrally disposed on the base.
A back lighted imaging media comprising a light source and comprising a transparent polymeric diffusion film exhibiting at least 50% transmissivity containing a thermoplastic polymeric material with internal microvoids and containing a plurality of complex lenses on a surface thereof, the film having a diffuse light transmission of at least 65%.
A liquid crystal device comprising a light source and a transparent polymeric diffusion film comprising a plurality of complex lenses on a surface thereof, the film having a diffuse light transmission of at least 65%, wherein polymeric layer is located between the light source and a polarizing film.
A liquid crystal device component comprising a light source and a transparent polymeric diffusion film comprising a plurality of complex lenses on a surface thereof, and having a diffuse light transmission of at least 65%.
A method for forming a plurality of polymeric complex lenses in a desired pattern on a substantially circular voided polymer support comprising the step of coating a melted layer of the polymeric material onto the support and then cooling the material while subjecting the layer to contact with a form having a pattern corresponding to the negative of the desired pattern.
A method for forming a plurality of polymeric complex lenses in a desired pattern on a substantially circular voided polymer support comprising casting polymeric complex lens material onto the support in contact with a chill roll and cooling the complex lens material while subjecting the layer to contact with a form having a pattern corresponding to the negative of the desired pattern.
