Abstract
The invention provides methods of treatment or prophylaxis of obesity, or methods of treatment for the reduction of food intake, comprising administering to a patient in need of such treatment a therapeutically effective amount of a sulfonamide compound of Formula I: 1 wherein the substituents are as described in the specification.
Claims14
A method for the treatment and/or prevention of obesity, comprising administering to a patient in need of such treatment an effective amount of a compound, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or prodrug thereof, having a structure in accordance with Formula I:
- 5
- wherein
- P is phenyl, naphthyl, a 5 or 6 membered heteroaryl ring comprising 1 to 3 heteroatoms selected from oxygen, nitrogen and sulfur, or a bicyclic or tricyclic heteroaryl ring comprising 1 to 3 heteroatoms selected from oxygen, nitrogen and sulfur;
- A is a single bond, a C1-6alkylene or a C2-6alkenylene group;
- each R1 is independently halogen, C1-6alkyl optionally substituted by one or more halogen atoms, C3-6-cycloalkyl, phenyl, COC1-6alkyl, C1-6alkoxy, OCF3, hydroxy, hydroxy-C1-6alkyl, hydroxy-C1-6alkoxy, C1-6alkoxy- C1-6alkoxy, nitro, amino, C1-6alkylamino, or di-C1-6alkylamino;
- n is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5;
- R2 is hydrogen, C1-6alkyl or together with a group R3 forms a group —(CR6R7)p— where R6 and R7 are independently hydrogen or C1-6alkyl and p is 2, 3 or 4;
- each R3 is independently C1-6alkyl optionally substituted by one or more halogen atoms, halogen, C1-6 alkoxy or together with the group R2 forms a group —(CR6R7)p— as defined above;
- m is 0, 1 or 2;
- each R4 is independently C1-6 alkyl, or a group —X—R5 where X is a single bond, CH2, O, NH or N—C1-6alkyl;
- k is 1 or 2;
- R5 is an optionally substituted 5- to 7-membered heterocyclic ring or a bicyclic heterocyclic ring comprising 1 to 3 heteroatoms selected from nitrogen, sulfur or oxygen;
- and
- Q is a phenyl ring or is a 6-membered heteroaryl ring comprising one or two nitrogen atoms.
A method of treatment for the reduction of food intake, comprising administering to a patient in need of such treatment an effective amount of a compound, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or prodrug thereof, having a structure in accordance with Formula I:
