Abstract
A method of modulating the transcription of one or more genes in a vascular or cardiac cell, wherein the method comprises a step of contacting the cell with a composition comprising one or more double-stranded nucleic acid(s) capable of sequence-specific binding to the transcription factor AP-1 and/or C/EBP or a related transcription factor.

A double stranded nucleic acid having the sequence of any one of SEQ ID NOs:
- 5, 9, 10, 12-17, 19, and 20 and being capable of sequence specific binding to an AP-1 family transcription factor.
A double stranded nucleic acid having the sequence of any one of SEQ ID NOs:
- 6 and 21-30 being capable of sequence specific binding to an C/EBP family transcription factor.
A method of modulating the transcription of at least one gene in a vascular cell, the method comprising:
- locally administering to a vascular cell a composition comprising one or more double stranded nucleic acid(s), in a non-viral form, wherein said nucleic acid(s) has the sequence of any one of SEQ ID NOs:
- 5, 9, 10, 12-17, 19, and 20 and exhibits sequence specific binding to an AP-1 family transcription factor, wherein said binding results in reduction of proliferation of said vascular cell.
- 6 and 21-30 and exhibits sequence specific binding to a C/EBP family transcription factor, wherein said binding results in reduction of proliferation of said vascular cell.
A method of modulating the transcription of at least one gene in a vascular cell, the method comprising:
- locally administering to a vascular cell a composition comprising at least two double stranded nucleic acids, in a non-viral form, wherein at least one of said nucleic acids has the sequence of any one of SEQ ID NOs:
- 5, 9, 10, 12-17, 19, and 20 and the sequence of at least one other of said nucleic acids has the sequence of any one of SEQ ID NOs:
- 6 and 21-30, wherein at least one of said nucleic acids exhibits sequence specific binding to an AP-1 family transcription factor and at least one of said nucleic acids exhibits sequence specific binding to a C/EBP family transcription factor, and wherein said binding results in reduction of proliferation of said vascular cell.
A method of treating a vascular disease, the method comprising:
- locally administering a composition comprising one or more double stranded nucleic acid(s), in a non-viral form, wherein said nucleic acid(s) has the sequence of any one of SEQ ID NOs:
- 5, 9, 10, 12-17, 19, and 20 and exhibits sequence specific binding to an AP-1 family transcription factor, to vascular cells in an amount sufficient to modulate the transcription of at least one gene in said vascular cells, wherein said modulation of transcription results in the reduction of proliferation of said vascular cells,
- wherein the reduction of proliferation results in the treatment of vascular disease.
A method of treating a condition that is a consequence of a vascular disease, the method comprising:
- locally administering a composition comprising one or more double stranded nucleic acid(s), in a non-viral form, wherein said nucleic acid(s) has the sequence of any one of SEQ ID NOs:
- 5, 9, 10, 12-17, 19, and 20 and exhibits sequence specific binding to an AP-1 family transcription factor, to vascular cells in an amount sufficient to modulate the transcription of at least one gene in said vascular cells, wherein said modulation of transcription results in the reduction of proliferation of said vascular cells,
- wherein the reduction of proliferation of said vascular cells results in the treatment of a condition that is a consequence of a vascular disease.
A method of treating a vascular disease, the method comprising:
- locally administering a composition comprising one or more double stranded nucleic acid(s), in a non-viral form, wherein said nucleic acid(s) has the sequence of any one of SEQ ID NOs:
- 6 and 21-30 and exhibits sequence specific binding to an C/EBP family transcription factor, to vascular cells in an amount sufficient to modulate the transcription results in the reduction of proliferation of said vascular cells,
- wherein the reduction of proliferation results in the treatment of vascular disease.
A method of treating a condition that is a consequence of a vascular disease, the method comprising:
- locally administering a composition comprising one or more double stranded nucleic acid(s), in a non-viral form, wherein said nucleic acid(s) has the sequence of any one of SEQ ID NOs:
- 6 and 21-30 and exhibits sequence specific binding to an C/EBP family transcription factor, to vascular cells in an amount sufficient to modulate the transcription of at least one gene in said vascular cells, wherein said modulation of transcription results in the reduction of proliferation of said vascular cells,
- wherein the reduction of proliferation of said vascular cells results in the treatment of a condition that is a consequence of a vascular disease.
