Abstract
A method of producing a mucosal and systemic immune response in a mammal comprising administering sublingually an effective amount of a composition comprising at least one antigen and a glycolipid adjuvant to said mammal.
Claims30
A method of producing a mucosal and systemic immune response in a human or animal comprising administering sublingually an effective amount of a composition comprising at least one antigen and a glycolipid adjuvant to said human or animal.
A method of treating a mucosally transmitted disease comprising administering sublingually to a human or animal an effective amount of a composition comprising at least one antigen and a glycolipid adjuvant.
A method of producing an IgA immune response in a human or animal comprising administering sublingually an effective amount of a composition comprising at least one antigen and a glycolipid adjuvant.
A method according to any preceding claim wherein the method also produces an IgG immune response.
A method according to any preceding claim wherein the composition additionally comprises a sublingually administerable diluent, excipient or carrier.
A method according to any preceding claim wherein the glycolipid adjuvant is a TH1-inducing adjuvant.
A method according to any preceding claim wherein the antigen is an allergen.
A method according to any preceding claim wherein the antigen is derived from a bacterium, virus, prion, neoplasm, autoantigen, animal, plant, recombinant or synthetic material.
A method according to any preceding claim wherein the antigen is in the form of a polypeptide.
A method according to any preceding claim wherein the antigen is in the form of a vector comprising a polynucleotide encoding an antigenic polypeptide, and where said polynucleotide is operably linked to a regulatory sequence which regulates expression of said polynucleotide.
A method according to any preceding claim, wherein the glycolipid adjuvant is selected from MPL® adjuvant, 3D-MPL, or a derivative or salt thereof.
A method according to any preceding claim wherein the composition is in the form of an aqueous solution, a gel, a capsule, a lozenge or a tablet.
A composition comprising:
- (A) one or more antigens;
- (B) a glycolipid adjuvant;
- and
- (C) a sublingually administerable diluent, excipient or carrier selected from carbopol, hydroxyethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, carboxymethylcellulose calcium, carboxymethylcellulose sodium, ethyl cellulose, methylcellulose, acacia, alginic acid, bentonite, cetostearyl alcohol, gelatin, guar gum, magnesiun aluminium silicate, maltodextrin, polyvinyl alcohol, propylene carbonate, propylene glycol alginate, colloidal silicon dioxide, sodium alginate, tragacanth, and xanthan gum.
A composition according to any preceding claim which is in the form of an aqueous solution, a gel, a lozenge, a capsule or a tablet.
