The invention relates to a cutting insert, especially for milling camshafts, said cutting insert having at least one cutting edge. The aim of the invention is provide a cutting insert that allows for considerable savings as compared to conventional cutting inserts. To this end, at least one cutting edge of the inventive cutting insert is composed of a plurality of cutting edge sections that have the following geometrical allocations when viewed from a planar top perspective of the face adjoining the cutting edge: a first, straight section (1), a second, straight section (2) that adjoins the first section (1) and that includes an angle (α) of more than 90° and less than 180° with said first section, and a third cutting edge section that is convexly curved and that adjoins the end of the second section (2) facing away from the first section (1) and whose curved design, that may also consist of straight sub-sections offset with respect to one another, extends over an angular range of more than 90°.
Cutting insert, in particular for milling camshafts, with at least one cutting edge that is composed of a plurality of cutting edge sections that have the following geometrical allocations when viewed in a planar plan view of the face adjoining the cutting edge:
