Abstract
A self-advancing drilling system comprising a drilling apparatus, the drilling apparatus, the drilling apparatus having at least one leading fluid cutting nozzle, means on the drilling apparatus to provide forward movement to the drilling apparatus, the drilling system further comprising a drill string formed from recoverable flexible hose.
Claims18
A self-advancing drilling system comprising a drilling apparatus, the drilling apparatus having at least one leading fluid cutting nozzle, means on the drilling apparatus to provide forward movement to the drilling apparatus, and a drill string formed from a flexible hose.
A method for removing methane from an underground coal seam containing the methane, the method comprising drilling a borehole from a ground surface and into the coal seam, forming a cavity in the borehole adjacent the coal seam, passing a whipstock down the borehole and into the cavity, positioning a self advancing fluid drilling system in a desired orientation in the cavity, the drilling system having (a) at least one leading fluid cutting nozzle, (b) means on the drilling apparatus to provide forward movement to the drilling apparatus, and (c) a flexible drill string;
- causing the system to self advance to cut a bore into the coal seam, and removing the methane from the bore.
