A former for a packaging machine to form pairs of three side sealed pouches from packaging foil material comprising a fitting with outer guide surfaces (10, 10′) for the foil and a channel (2) that is open on the top and bottom and partially open toward the front;

• arranged in the channel (2) are two facing, parallel running form- and filling pipes (13);
• the channel (2) has an upper supply edge (3) for the foil strip (FS);
• the back wall (4) of the channel runs from the supply edge (3) to the dispensing opening (5) of the former (1);
• the form of the bent side walls (12) of the channel (2) is adapted to the round form of the form- and filling pipes (13) and together with said pipes and the front walls of the channel forms a gap (20) for receiving, bending and folding one strip of the foil material passing the channel (2);
• the front walls (6) of the channel (2) have form edges (7), and said form edges are continually bent to the foil supply edge (3);
• the form edges (7) delimit a section (9) converging in the direction of the foil supply (P);
• at the end of said section, the front walls (6) delimit a slit (8) and the front walls of the channel (6) are developed on the outside in the form of shawl-collar-like foil material tail surfaces (10) running out at the slit (8), whereby the improvement is that the back wall (4) and the form edges (7) of the front walls (6), proceeding from the foil supply edge (3) and the converging section (9) to the end of the downwardly open slit (8), are developed relative to one another with steady approach.
