Abstract
This invention relates to a rubber modified acrylic and/or vinyl resin comprising the mini-emulsion polymerization product of at least one rubber compound substantially dissolved in at least one acrylic monomer and/or vinyl monomer.
Claims67
A rubber modified acrylic and/or vinyl resin comprising the mini-emulsion polymerization product of at least one rubber compound substantially dissolved in at least one acrylic and/or vinyl monomer.
A water-based hybrid latex comprising water and a rubber modified acrylic and/or vinyl hybrid resin, wherein said rubber modified acrylic and/or vinyl hybrid resin comprises the mini-emulsion polymerization product of at least one rubber compound substantially dissolved in at least one acrylic monomer and/or vinyl monomer.
A method of preparing a water-based latex comprising the steps of shearing a solution to produce a mini-emulsion and polymerizing said mini-emulsion wherein said solution comprises an aqueous dispersion of one or more rubber compounds substantially dissolved in at least one acrylic and/or vinyl monomer.
A method of preparing a water-based latex comprising the steps of:
- substantially dissolving at least one rubber compound in at least one acrylic monomer and/or vinyl monomer to form a rubber/acrylic monomer and/or vinyl monomer solution;
- dispersing said rubber/acrylic monomer and/or vinyl monomer solution in an aqueous medium to form a pre-emulsion;
- shearing said pre-emulsion to form a mini-emulsion;
- and subsequently polymerizing said mini-emulsion.
