Abstract
A plate container with detachable cover is disclosed. The container includes a base in the form of a plate and a cover. The plate and the cover include first and second closure portions, respectively, which are engageable with each other to maintain the cover in a secure position relative to the base and also forms a substantially leak-proof seal. The cover can include gripping tabs for facilitating the separation of the cover from the base and permit container venting. The plastic container is suited for microwave cooking, machine dishwashing, and freezer use.
Claims15
A container comprising:
- a base, the base having a plate-like configuration, the base including a first closure portion;
- and
- a cover, the cover including a second closure portion adapted for sealing occlusion with the first closure portion of the base so that when the first and second closure portions are engaged with each other, the cover and the base define a substantially sealed storage area;
- wherein one of the first and second closure portions includes a notch, the notch defining an air passageway during the occlusion of the closure portions to permit venting of the storage area.

A container comprising:
- a base, the base having a plate-like configuration, the base including a first closure portion;
- and
- a cover, the cover including a second closure portion and a flange, the second closure portion having a crown surface and being adapted for sealing engagement with the first closure portion of the base so that when the first and second closure portions are engaged with each other, the cover and the base define a substantially sealed storage area, the flange extending from the second closure portion a predetermined length and including an outer edge, the outer edge having an upper surface and defining a perimeter of the cover, the second closure portion having a predetermined height measured from the upper surface of the outer edge of the flange to the crown surface of the second closure portion, and the length of the flange being at least equal to one-half of the height of the second closure portion.
A container comprising:
- a base, the base having a plate-like configuration, the base including a first closure portion;
- and
- a cover, the cover including a second closure portion, a flange, and a gripping tab, the second closure portion being adapted for sealing engagement with the first closure portion of the base so that when the first and second closure portions are engaged with each other, the cover and the base define a substantially sealed storage area, the flange extending from the second closure portion, the gripping tab joined to the flange and including a mating surface, a stiffening element, a shoulder, and an outer edge, the stiffening element having a top and an outer end, the stiffening element having a predetermined height measured between the top surface of the outer edge of the flange and the top of the stiffening element, the shoulder extending a predetermined length, measured between the outer end of the stiffening element and the outer edge, and the length of the shoulder being at least equal to one-half of the height of the stiffening element.
A container comprising:
- a base, the base having a plate-like configuration, the base including a first closure portion;
- and
- a cover, the cover having an interior surface and an exterior surface, the cover including a dome portion, a second closure portion, and a channel, the interior surface of the dome portion being substantially concave, the second closure portion being adapted for sealing engagement with the first closure portion of the base so that when the first and second closure portions are engaged with each other, the cover and the base define a substantially sealed storage area, the channel disposed between the dome portion and the second closure portion, the channel having an open mouth and a closed end, the channel having a depth measured between the open mouth and the closed end of the channel, the channel having a width measured between the dome and the second closure portion along the open mouth, and the width of the channel being less than twice the depth of the channel.
