Abstract
A hot tub or spa (100) has a vanishing or overflow edge (110) not readily visible to a user. Water from the main holding area (101) overflows the edge (110) into a catch basin (102). A reservoir (120) holds a constant head of water to provide to a pump (112) and also allows for the holding of increased amounts of water displaced by users who are using the hot tub (100). Water flowing over the vanishing edge (110) flows into the catch basin (102) and thence to the reservoir (120) and pump (112) where the water is recirculated into the spa (100).
Claims16
A hot tub or spa having a generally relatively large recessed portion for holding people and water, a first edge surrounding at least a first portion of the perimeter of said large recessed portion and extending upwardly a distance beyond the surface of maximum water quantity held in said hot tub or spa thereby to operably hold said water in said recessed portion, a second edge surrounding a second portion of said large recessed portion thereby to operably hold said water in said recessed portion, said second edge being beneath said surface of said water held by said large recessed portion and allowing said water to flow over the top of said second edge during operation of said hot tub.
Method of manufacturing a hot tub or spa comprising the steps of determining the number of users intended to comfortably use said hot tub and the height of water within said hot tub when said users are within said hot tub, overflowing an edge of said hot tub with a portion of said water within said hot tub and catching said overflowed water with a catch basin, providing a reservoir of a predetermined size to hold said overflowed water from said catch basin and to maintain a constant head of water within said reservoir to feed to a pump for circulating water within said spa, said reservoir being of a size to hold said constant head and any quantity of water displaced by said users under normal operation.
A method of allowing water to flow over the edge of a hot tub or spa and to recirculate said water into said hot tub or spa, comprising providing said edge of said hot tube or spa with a height that allows water to flow over said edge during operation of said hot tub and recirculating said overflowing water in said hot tub or spa.
A hot tub or spa having a generally relatively large recessed portion for holding people and water and an edge portion surrounding said large recessed portion thereby to operably hold said water in said recessed portion, said edge portion being beneath said surface of said water held by said large recessed portion and allowing said water to flow over the top of said edge portion during operation of said hot tub.
