Abstract
The present invention provides a process for preparing an imidazole derivative or its salt which comprises reacting a tetrahydrofuran or tetrahydropyran derivative with formamidine or its salt in the presence of a base.

A process for preparing a compound of formula 1 or its salt, which comprises reacting a compound of formula 2 with formamidine or its salt in the presence of a base:

- wherein R1 and R2 are respectively hydrogen, C1-C4 alkyl, or a phenyl group;
- R3 is an oxygen-containing leaving group or halogen;
- R4 is halogen;
- and n is 1 or 2.
