Abstract
Dictyostatin-1 has been found to stabilize microtubules and prohibit their depolymerization to free tubulin. Because of these activities, the dictyostatin compounds can be used in the treatment of a number of diseases in which aberrant cellular proliferation occurs such as drug-sensitive and drug-resistant cancers, autoimmune disorders, and inflammatory diseases.
Claims9
A method for the inhibition of cellular proliferation in autoimmune disorders and inflammatory diseases wherein said method comprises administering an effective amount of dicytostatin-1, or an analog or salt thereof, to a human or animal in need of such treatment.
A method for the induction of polymerization of tubulin and the stabilization of microtubules in non-cancer cells by administering to said cells an effective amount of dictyostatin-1 or an analog or salt thereof.
A pharmaceutical composition to be used for the inhibition of cellular proliferation in autoimmune disorders and inflammatory diseases wherein said composition comprises an effective amount of dictyostation-1, or an analog, derivative or salt thereof.
A method for the efficient preparation of dictyostatin-1 wherein said method comprises isolating and purifying dictyostatin-1 from the lithistid sponge of the family Corallistidae.
