Abstract
This device comprises a spallation target (63) that produces neutrons by interaction with a hollow particle beam (88) propagating within a chamber (86), another chamber (84) containing the target and a leak tight partition (92) separating the chambers. The invention is particularly applicable to basic physics, medicine and transmutation.
Claims15
Spallation device for the production of neutrons, this device comprising:
- a spallation target (63, 78) that will produce neutrons by interaction with a particle beam (64, 88),
- a first chamber (84) containing the spallation target,
- means (30) of generating the particle beam,
- a second chamber (86) in which the particle beam will propagate towards the spallation target, along a line of propagation (X),
- a leak tight partition (74, 92) through which the particle beam can pass, separates the first chamber from the second chamber and reaches this propagation axis, and
- a heat transporting fluid (78, 95) intended to circulate in the first chamber to cool the spallation target,
- this device being characterized in that the particle beam (64, 88) is hollow and surrounds the propagation axis (X).
