Abstract
In a moving object tracking system, on-board equipment and equipment disposed in a management center are connected to each other by way of a communication network. The equipment disposed in the management center receives current position information about the current position of a moving object from the on-board equipment and keeps track of the moving object. The on-board equipment has a plurality of communication units for communicating with the equipment disposed in the management center in different manners, and a communication switching unit for selecting an optimum communication unit from among the plurality of communication units based on the current position information when detecting a theft of the moving object.

A moving object tracking system in which on-board equipment and equipment disposed in a management center are connected to each other by way of a communication network, and said equipment disposed in the management center receives current position information on a current position of a moving object from the on-board equipment and keeps track of the moving object, said on-board equipment comprising:
- a plurality of communication means for communicating with said equipment disposed in the management center in different manners;
- and
- a communication switching means for selecting an optimum communication means from among said plurality of communication means based on the current position information when detecting a theft of said moving object.
