Abstract
A transmitter pre-driver utilizing discrete-time charge sharing between multiple capacitors to create intermediate voltages. The intermediate voltages are fed into an output driver to produce Class AB and Class A output current flow.
Claims14
A transmitter pre-driver for driving a driver circuit having a pair of driver inputs, said pre-driver and said driver circuit coupled to a pair of rail supply lines, comprising:
- (a) a pair of mid-voltage rails;
- (b) a connector switching circuit coupled between said pair of driver inputs and said mid-voltage rails, operative to switch in response to receiving a digital data signal D and to connect selected ones of said driver inputs to corresponding ones of said mid-voltage rails according to said data signal D and its complement {overscore (D)};
- and
- (c) a regulator circuit coupled between said rail supply lines and said mid-voltage rails, operative to establish mid-voltage rail voltages VMID1 and VMID2, whose values lie between voltages of said rail supply lines, in response to receiving said data signal D and its complement {overscore (D)}.
- wherein VMID1 and VMID2 are generated through charge sharing of capacitances within said pre-driver circuit and said driver circuit.
