Abstract
A resilient torque absorber is placed between a roll bar and a U-joint of roll bar mechanism such as that used in roll-tarp covers for truck trailers. The absorber allows more precise adjustment of tightness and helps prevent accidents caused by over-tightening of tarps or by tarps loosening during load settling.
Claims26
An adapter for connecting a rotary power shaft to a roll bar of a roll-tarp assembly, said adapter comprising:
- a first connector configured for transferring rotary power to the roll bar,
- a second connector configured for receiving rotary power from the power shaft, and
- a resilient member connecting said first and second connectors for transferring rotary power from said first to said second connector and allowing limited, force-responsive rotation of said first connector relative to said second connector, so as to help minimize overtorque on said connectors and roll bar.
An adapter in accordance with claim 11, wherein said second connector has an axial second projection configured to extend within said spring.
An adapter for connecting a rotary power shaft U-joint to a roll bar of a roll-tarp assembly, said adapter comprising:
- a first connector attached to said U-joint and configured for receiving rotary power from the power shaft through the U-joint, and
- a second connector attached to said roll bar and configured for transferring rotary power to the roll bar,
- a resilient member connecting said first and second connectors for transferring rotary power from said first to said second connector and allowing limited, force-responsive rotation of said first connector relative to said second connector, so as to help minimize overtorque on said connectors and roll bar.
