Method for attaching an airbag module

A method of mounting an airbag module to a molded armature, comprising the steps of:

• (1) providing a plurality of armature engagement members extending from a steering wheel hub, one of the plurality of armature engagement members located at a 6 o'clock position relative to the molded armature;
• (2) engaging a plurality of switch assemblies with the steering wheel hub;
• (3) tilting the airbag module relative to the molded armature;
• (4) aligning a airbag module engagement member extending from an airbag module with the armature engagement members located at the 6 o'clock position;
• and
• (5) engaging the multiple of switch assemblies with an airbag cover of the airbag module such that a clearance is formed between the plurality of armature engagement members and the corresponding plurality of airbag module engagement members and the airbag module is supported by the switch assemblies.

A method of removing an airbag module from a molded armature, comprising the steps of:

• (1) inserting a tool between a armature engagement member extending from a steering wheel hub and a airbag module engagement member extending from an airbag module;
• (2) rotating the tool to separate the armature engagement member from the airbag module engagement member;
• (3) tilting the airbag module relative to the molded armature;
• and
• (4) removing the airbag module from the molded armature.
