Abstract
This invention provides a paperboard with an improved score line, the method for making the improved score line, and the apparatus for imparting the improved score line. The score line makes the process of folding a flat paperboard into a corner an easier and more consistent process. The score is a V-shaped groove fashioned from a bar score line flanked by two parallel slit cut lines. The method for creating the score line includes utilizing different scoring hubs for bar scoring and slit scoring the paperboard. The apparatus for creating the bar score is a four shaft slitter-scorer having multiple shafts in series, wherein each shaft has at least one hub for slit scoring, bar scoring or supporting the paperboard.
Claims31
1) A paperboard comprising at least one score line to form a corner of a container, wherein the at least one score line has two substantially parallel cut lines and one bar score line intermediate said two cut lines.
7) A container comprising at least two sides made of paperboard, wherein a corner is formed at a junction of the at least two sides, said junction formed from a score line folded at an angle less than 180 degrees, said score line having two substantially parallel cut lines and one bar score line intermediate said two cut lines.
14) A method for forming a score line on a paperboard, comprising the steps of slitting said paperboard with two substantially parallel cut lines and indenting said paperboard with a bar score intermediate said two cut lines.
19) An apparatus for imparting a score line on a paperboard comprising a first rotating shaft, a second rotating shaft, a third rotating shaft and a fourth rotating shaft, wherein at least one slit scoring device is operably connected to said first rotating shaft, at least one slit scoring supporting device is operably connected to said second rotating shaft, at least one bar scoring device is operably connected to said third rotating shaft, and at least one bar scoring supporting device is operably connected to said fourth rotating shaft.
