Abstract
A method is provided for slowing the progression of atherosclerosis in hypertensive or normotensive patients and reducing or eliminating atherosclerotic lesions in such patients by administering a combination of a cholesterol lowering drug such as pravastatin, and an ACE inhibitor, especially one containing a mercapto moiety, such as captopril or zofenopril.
Claims27
A method for preventing, stabilizing or causing regression of atherosclerosis in a mammalian specie, which comprises administering to a mammalian specie in need of such treatment an effective amount of a combination of a cholesterol lowering drug and an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor.
17 The method as defined in claim 16 wherein said angitensin converting enzyme inhibitor is a carboxyalkyl dipeptide derivative.
18 The method as defined in claim 1 wherein said angiotemsin converting enzyme inhibitor is a phosphinylalkanoyl proline derivative, a phosphoramidate derivative, or a phosphonate substituted amino or imino acid or salt thereof.
A pharmaceutical combination comprising an inhibito of the enzyme pb 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl coenzyme A (HMC CoA) reductase whichis pravastatin of (S)-4-[[[l-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-(l-methylethyl)lH-indol-2-yl]ethynyl]hydroxyphos-phenyl]-3-hydroxybutanoic acid, disodium salt (SQ 33,600) and an ACE inhibitor.
