A cleaning composition having a compacted particulate premix, the premix containing: (a) a hydroxy mixed ether; (b) a surfactant other than the hydroxy mixed ether; and (c) a builder, and wherein the composition is in solid form.

Laundry detergent and cleaning product tablets comprising compacted particulate precursors, comprising surfactants, builders, and, where appropriate, further laundry detergent and cleaning product ingredients, characterized in that they comprise surfactants from the group of the hydroxy mixed ethers.
