Abstract
Liquid or gel bleaching compositions comprising a diacyl peroxide, thickener, and water are disclosed. Preferred compositions are for use in automatic dishwashing machines. The compositions are effective in removing stains, especially carotenoid stains, from plastics while minimizing deposition.
Claims18
A stable liquid or gel bleaching composition comprising, by weight:
- a) from about 0.1% to about 5% of diacyl peroxide particles having a particle size of from about 0.1 to about 10 microns, said diacyl peroxide having the general formula:
- RC(O)OO(O)CR
- wherein each r is a hydrocarbyl group;
- b) from about 0.1% to about 5% of thickener;
- and
- c) from about 80% to about 99% of water;
- wherein said composition has a pH of from about 2 to about 10;
- and wherein said composition is not granular.

A method for cleaning plastic surfaces in an automatic dishwashing machine while minimizing deposition, comprising:
- a) dispersing a stable liquid or gel bleaching composition to form an aqueous wash liquor, said composition comprising by weight:
- i) from about 0.1% to about 5% of diacyl peroxide particles;
- ii) from about 0.1% to about 5% of thickener;
- and
- iii) from about 80% to about 99% of water;
- wherein said wash liquor has a pH of from about 2 to about 11;
- and
- wherein said composition is not granular;
- b) contacting said surfaces with said aqueous wash liquor comprising from about 10 ppm to about 300 ppm of diacyl peroxide particles having a particle size of from about 0.1 to about 10 microns, said diacyl peroxide having the general formula:
- RC(O)OO(O)CR,
- wherein each R is a hydrocarbyl group.
