Abstract
A method of treating of hydrotest water inhibits oxygen corrosion, inhibition of MIC and safe discharge of water. The combination treatment plan reduces biocide usage in a high pH brine. The reduced overall chemical usage facilitates meeting environmental guidelines while also minimizing chemical cost. The method comprises adding an oxygen scavenger to remove oxygen and prevent or minimize oxygen corrosion; raising the hydrotest water pH, typically in excess of pH 9.5; adding a biocide in reduced amount; and adding a scale inhibitor to inhibit scale.
Claims8
A method of performing a hydrostatic test of a closed system, comprising the steps of:
- a. injecting a base, oxygen scavenger, and scale inhibitor into a quantity of hydrostatic test water;
- b. adding an effective quantity of a biocide into the hydrostatic test water;
- and
- c. injecting the hydrostatic test water and additives to the closed system at hydrostatic test pressure.
A method of preparing hydrostatic test water, comprising the steps of:
- a. adding a quantity of a base sufficient to raise the pH of the test water;
- and
- b. adding a biocide to the test water.
A hydrostatic test fluid comprising, in combination:
- a. hydrostatic test water;
- b. a base;
- c. an oxygen scavenger;
- d. a scale inhibitor;
- and
