The invention relates to a method for influencing the sinapine content in transgenic plant cells and plants. In particular, the invention relates to the inhibition of the enzymatic activity of a UDP-glucose: sinapate glucosyltransferase (SGT) in transgenic plant cells. The invention further relates to nucleic acid molecules containing a DNA sequence which codes for a protein with the enzymatic activity of an SGT. The invention furthermore relates to transgenic plants and plant cells comprising a nucleic acid molecule according to the invention, as a result of which contain a lower content of sinapine in comparison with wild-type plants or cells, and the agricultural products and propagating material of the transgenic plants.
A recombinant nucleic acid molecule, comprising
The recombinant nucleic acid molecule according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the promoter is a promoter active in plant seeds, in particular a USP, LeB4 or napin promoter.
A recombinant protein having the enzymatic activity of a UDP-glucose:
A method for generating plants or plant cells having a reduced content of sinapine in comparison with wild-type plants or plant cells, comprising the following steps:
Use of a DNA sequence encoding a protein having the enzymatic activity of an SGT in anti-sense orientation, as a co-suppression construct or as double strand RNA interference suppression construct for the reduction of the sinapine content in plants, particularly in rapeseed plants.
Use of a DNA sequence encoding a protein having the enzymatic activity of an SGT in anti-sense orientation and/or in sense orientation to increase the content of lecithin in plants.
Use of a DNA sequence encoding a protein having the enzymatic activity of an SGT in anti-sense orientation and/or in sense orientation to increase the content of resveratrol in plants.
A DNA sequence selected from the group consisting of:
