Abstract
Multicomponent superabsorbent gel particles are disclosed. The multicomponent particles comprise at least one acidic water-absorbing resin and at least one basic water-absorbing resin. Each particle contains at least one microdomain of the acidic resin in contact with, or in close proximity to, at least one microdomain of the basic resin. Blends of multicomponent superabsorbent gel particles with particles of a second water-absorbing resin also are disclosed. Improved diaper cores containing particles of the multicomponent superabsorbent gel particles also are disclosed.
Claims54
A multicomponent superabsorbent particle comprising at least one microdomain of at least one first water-absorbing resin in contact with or in close proximity to at least one microdomain of at least one second water-absorbing resin, wherein the first and second water-absorbing resins, independently, are neutralized 0% to 50%, by weight.
The particles of wherein the first water-absorbing resin, the second water-absorbing resin, or both, are neutralized greater than 25% to 50%, by weight.
12 The particle of claim 6 wherein the basic resin, the acidic resin, or both, are surface crosslinked with up to about 1% by weight of the particle of a surface crosslinking agent.
A diaper having a core, said core comprising at least 15% by weight of multicomponent superabsorbent particles, wherein each multicomponent superabsorbent particle comprises at least one microdomain of a first water-absorbing resin in contact with or in close proximity to at least one microdomain of a second water-absorbing resin, and wherein the first and second water-absorbing resins of the multicomponent superabsorbent particles, independently, are neutralized 0% to 50%, by weight.
