Abstract
A slidable grip (20, 100, 200) for one hand is provided on the shaft (12, 312) of a modified golf club (10, 200, 300) to enable a golf trainee to separate his or her hands progressively during a backswing and being them back together progressively during the downswing. This technique imprints proper swing mechanics in the mind of the trainee to be recalled reflexively in executing a conventional golf swing with the hands in a fixed grip relationship on the handle (14, 114) of a golf club.
Claims49
A golf swing training device comprising:
- an elongated shaft having first and second ends, the first end defining a handle for grasping by a first hand of a user:
- a slidable grip for grasping by a second hand of the user, the slidable grip freely slidable longitudinally with respect to the shaft and constructed so that, when gripped by the second hand of the user during a full backswing the shaft passes across the fingers of the user's second hand, whereby the hands of the user, when grasping the handle and slidable grip, can separate progressively during a backswing and then progressively return back into proximity during a downswing and followthrough of a training swing using body motions similar to a golf swing.
A baseball bat swing training device comprising:
- an elongated shaft having first and second ends, the first end defining a handle for grasping by a first hand of the user;
- a slideable grip for grasping by a second hand of the user, the slidable grip being constructed to slide longitudinally with respect to the shaft, when gripped by the second hand of the user, so that the hands of the user, when grasping the handle and slidable grip, can separate progressively during a backswing and then progressively return back into proximity during a forward swing and followthrough of a training swing using body motions similar to a bat swing.
A method for training an individual to develop effective swing mechanics for a baseball bat swing, the method being practiced with a training device having an elongated shaft with first and second ends, a handle at the first end for grasping by a first hand of the user, and a slidable grip slidable longitudinally along the shaft for grasping by a second hand of the user, the method comprising the steps:
- (a) grasping the handle with the first hand;
- (b) grasping the slidable grip with the second hand;
- (c) bringing the hands into close proximity;
- (d) assuming an address position;
- (e) taking the training device through the motion of a backswing while progressively sliding the slidable grip down the shaft;
- (f) taking the training device through the motion of a forward swing while progressively sliding the slidable grip up the shaft to bring the hands back into close proximity at an impact position in the swing;
- and
- (g) taking the training device through the motion of a followthrough.
A batting swing trainer comprising:
- a shaft having a substantially uniform circumference and first and second ends;
- a handle attached to the first end, the second end having an area of increased circumference relative to the remainder of the shaft;
- a slide mounted on the shaft and movable between the first and second ends;
- means positioned on the shaft adjacent to the handle for stopping movement of the slide in the direction of the handle.
A process of teaching a person the proper technique for swinging a bat using a batting swing trainer including a shaft having first and second ends, the first end containing a handle, the second end containing an area of increased circumference, a stop positioned on the shaft adjacent to the handle, and a slide movable between the first and second positions, the process comprising:
- gripping the handle with one hand and gripping the slide with the other hand;
- and swinging the trainer while simultaneously moving the slide from the first position where it is adjacent to the second end to the second position where the slide is adjacent the stop.
A golf swing training device comprising:
- an elongated shaft having first and second ends, the first end defining a handle for grasping by a first hand of the user;
- a slidable element mounted for sliding movement along the shaft between the first and second ends, the slideable element being constructed to move along the shaft when grasped by the second hand of the user during a downswing and followthrough of a training swing using body motions similar to a golf swing.
A swing training device for sporting implements which are swung during use, comprising:
- an elongated shaft having first and second ends, the first end defining a handle for grasping by a first hand of the user;
- a slideable grip for grasping by a second hand of the user, the slidable grip being constructed to slide longitudinally with respect to the shaft, when grasped by the second hand of the user so that the hands of the user, when grasping the handle and slidable grip, can separate progressively during a backswing and then progressively return back into proximity during a forward swing and followthrough of a training swing.
A swing training device comprising:
- an elongated shaft having first and second ends, the first end defining a handle for grasping by a first hand of a user:
- a slidable grip for grasping by a second hand of the user, the slidable grip freely slidable longitudinally with respect to the shaft and constructed so that, when gripped by the second hand of the user during a full backswing the shaft passes across the fingers of the user's second hand, whereby the hands of the user, when grasping the handle and slidable grip, can separate progressively during a backswing and then progressively return back into proximity during a downswing and followthrough of a training swing.
