Abstract
A method and lamp produced by using this method for evenly disbursing mercury and other lamp compounds throughout the entire length of assembled fluorescent lamps by uniformly and thoroughly heating each lamp's sealed chamber containing these materials to a temperature high enough to vaporize the mercury therein.
Claims21
A method of producing a fluorescent lamp, said method comprising:
- inserting mercury into a chamber having a length, said chamber containing phosphor;
- securing electrodes to said chamber;
- sealing said chamber;
- and
- uniformly heating said chamber along said length of said chamber to a temperature above the vaporization temperature of said mercury for a defined period to vaporize said mercury and thereby evenly disburse said mercury within said chamber.
A method of reducing the warm-up times of a plurality of assembled and sealed fluorescent lamps, said method comprising:
- placing the plurality of assembled lamps on a structure such that each lamp of said plurality are spaced apart from each other by a defined distance;
- and
- evenly heating said plurality of said lamps in said rack such that mercury in said plurality of said lamps vaporizes and thereby becomes evenly distributed through each said lamp of said plurality of assembled and sealed fluorescent lamps.
A fluorescent lamp having a sealed chamber containing mercury, said fluorescent lamp prepared by a process comprising:
- mounting the fluorescent lamp to a structure such that no part of the sealed chamber touches the structure and air flows evenly around the chamber;
- inserting the structure containing the fluorescent lamp into an oven;
- and
- uniformly heating said chamber to a temperature above the vaporization temperature of said mercury for a defined period to vaporize said mercury and thereby evenly disburse said mercury within said chamber.
