Abstract

The object of the present invention is to provide a hair treatment having high dechlorinating and hydroxy radical-scavenging abilities, excellent safety to skin, low irritation and sufficiently high storage stability required in view of the production of preparations, and provide a hair care composition using the hair treatment agent. Disclosed herein is hair treatment comprising, as an effective ingredient, an ascorbic acid derivative which is a compound represented by formula (1) or a salt thereof: 1 (wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 each independently represents a hydroxyl group, an ester bond-containing group derived from a hydroxyl group and an organic group or an inorganic group, or a glucoside group; or R1 and R2 or R3 and R4 may form together a divalent group derived from two adjacent hydroxyl groups and aldehyde or ketone, provided that R1 and R2 are not a hydroxyl group at the same time), and a hair care composition containing the hair treatment agent.
