Hand tool apparatus for orbital drilling

A hand tool assembly for machining a hole in an object having a working surface, said hand tool assembly comprising:

• a template assembly including:
• a template having a front surface configured for contacting the working surface of the object, said template having a throughhole extending through said front surface;
• and
• an annular sleeve having an interior substantially aligned with said throughhole;
• and
• a tool assembly configured for being inserted into said sleeve to thereby machine the hole, said tool assembly including:
• a tool holder having a generally conical shape tapering from a rear end towards a front end, said rear end having a rear opening, said front end having a front opening, said front opening being smaller than said rear opening, said front opening and said rear opening being connected by a central passageway;
• and
• a cutting tooling configured for being inserted into said rear opening and being pushed through said passageway and partially through said front opening.

An axial feed control system for a hand-held drill, said system comprising:

• a cutting tool extending in an axial direction;
• an axial positioning mechanism, including:
• a rear housing connected to said cutting tool;
• a front housing at least partially surrounding said cutting tool;
• and
• a ring attached to one of said rear housing and said front housing, said ring being threadedly coupled to an other of said rear housing and said front housing such that rotation of said ring moves said cutting tool in said axial direction relative to said front housing;
• and
• a stroke length adjustment mechanism, including:
• a return mechanism configured for reversing a direction of axial movement of said cutting tool from a forward direction to a backward direction;
• a latch connected to said return mechanism, said latch being movable between a first position in which said return mechanism is not activated, and a second position in which said return mechanism is activated;
• and
• a projection having a position which varies with an axial position of said cutting tool, said projection being configured for engaging said latch to thereby move said latch from said first position to said second position.
