Abstract
A rectifier assembly having a fusible cutout is described as a polarity reversal protection device. The fusible cutout includes a semiconductor chip having a positive temperature coefficient so that when it overheats, it becomes unsoldered and interrupts the current flow.
Claims7
A rectifier assembly having semiconductor rectifier elements (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) for rectifying an electric periodic quantity applied to an input (u, v, w) of the rectifier assembly and an output (B+) for picking off the rectified electric quantity, wherein a fusible cutout (10) is connected between the rectifier elements (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) and the output (B+), the fusible cutout having a semiconductor chip made of the same semiconductor material as the rectifier elements.
The rectifier assembly as recited in one of the preceding claims, wherein the semiconductor chip of the fusible cutout has an n+/n/n+ layer sequence, the layer thicknesses of the three layers being approximately the same.
A fusible cutout for use in a rectifier assembly having semiconductor rectifier elements, wherein the fusible cutout contains a semiconductor chip heatable by a current flow, its soldered connections to external contacts (62, 63) melting through in at least one location when a peak current load is exceeded, irreversibly interrupting the current flow through the semiconductor chip;
- and the semiconductor chip is made of the same semiconductor material as the rectifier elements.
