Abstract
There is provided a liquid crystal display apparatus including a first substrate, a second substrate having an inner surface opposing the first substrate. A liquid crystal is placed between the first and second substrates. A plurality of light-transmitting pixel electrodes are arranged between the inner surface of the second substrate and the liquid crystal. A reflecting layer is placed between each pixel electrode and the inner surface of the second substrate and has an area smaller than that of the pixel electrode.
Claims29
A liquid crystal display apparatus comprising:
- a first substrate;
- a second substrate having an inner surface opposing the first substrate;
- a liquid crystal placed between the first and second substrates;
- a plurality of light-transmitting pixel electrodes arranged between the inner surface of the second substrate and the liquid crystal;
- and
- a reflecting layer which is placed between said each pixel electrode and the inner surface of the second substrate and has an area smaller than an area of the pixel electrode.
A method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display apparatus in which a liquid crystal is sealed between a first substrate and a second substrate having an inner surface opposing the first substrate, and a plurality of pixel electrodes are arranged on the inner surface of the second substrate in the form of a matrix, comprising:
- forming reflecting layers on and over the inner surface of the second substrate in the form of a matrix;
- forming an insulating layer on the second substrate including the reflecting layers;
- and
- forming the light-transmitting pixel electrodes on and over the insulating layer such that an area of said each pixel electrode is larger than an area of the reflecting layer and at least part of said each pixel electrode overlaps corresponding one of the reflecting layers.
