Abstract
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of alkylated dihydroxybenzene by alkylating dihydroxy benzene with tertiary butyl alcohol in the presence of a solid acid/solid polymer catalyst.

A process for the preparation of alkylated dihydroxybenzene, said process comprising alkylating dihydroxy benzene with tertiary butyl alcohol in the presence of a solid acid/solid polymer catalyst at a temperature in the range of 40 to 90° C. for a time period in the range of 2 to 8 hours, separating the alkylated dihydroxybenzene.
