Abstract
Disclosed are a system and method of replacing data in cache ways of a cache memory array. If one or more cache ways are locked from replacement, a cache way may be selected from among the unlocked cache ways based upon a pseudo random selection scheme.
Claims30
A system comprising:
- a system memory;
- a cache memory array to store portions of data in the system memory in a plurality of cache ways;
- and
- a cache controller comprising logic to select a cache way in the cache memory array for replacement of a portion of data in said selected cache way based upon a pseudo random selection scheme if one or more cache ways in the cache memory array is locked from replacement.

- storing portions of data in a system memory in a plurality of cache ways of a cache memory array;
- and
- selecting a cache way in the cache memory array for replacement of a portion of data in said selected cache way based upon a pseudo random selection scheme if one or more cache way in the cache memory array is locked from replacement.
A cache controller comprising:
- logic to selectively replace data in cache ways of a cache memory array;
- logic to lock one or more of the cache ways from replacement;
- and
- logic to select a cache way in the cache memory array for replacement of a portion of data in said selected cache way based upon a pseudo random selection scheme if one or more cache ways in the cache memory array is locked from replacement.

An apparatus comprising:
- means for storing portions of data in a system memory in a plurality of cache ways of a cache memory array;
- and
- means for selecting a cache way in the cache memory array for replacement of a portion of data in said selected cache way based upon a pseudo random selection scheme if one or more cache way in the cache memory array is locked from replacement.
