Abstract
A foamable pharmaceutical composition comprising a corticosteroid, a quick-break foaming agent, a propellant and a buffering agent, sufficient to buffer the composition to within the range of pH 3.0 to 6.0 is disclosed. The quick-break foaming agent typically comprises an aliphatic alcohol, water, a fatty alcohol and a surface active agent. Due to the nature of the compositions of the invention, they are especially well-suited for use in the treatment of various skin diseases, and in particular, in the treatment of scalp psoriasis.
Claims28
A foamable pharmaceutical composition adapted for topical administration, the composition comprising a corticosteroid, a quick-break foaming agent, a propellant and an amount of a buffering agent, wherein the composition has a pH within the range of 3.0 to 6.0.
A foamable pharmaceutical composition adapted for topical administration, the composition comprising a corticosteroid, a quick-break foaming agent, a propellant and an amount of a buffering agent, selected from the group consisting of a citrate buffer, an acetic acid/sodium acetate buffer and a phosphoric acid/sodium phosphate buffer, wherein the composition has a pH within the range of 3.0 to 6.0.
The foamable pharmaceutical composition according to claim 19, wherein the aliphatic alcohol is present in an amount corresponding to 57 to 59% by weight of the composition.
A foamable pharmaceutical composition adapted for topical administration having the following composition:
