Abstract
A medium judgment program is recorded on an information recording medium. The program causes a computer to judge whether the medium is authorized. The judgment may be based on information on a unique value preformed in the medium in regard to each of the media. If the computer determines that the information recording medium is right or authorized, the program permits the computer to reproduce a main program. The main program is different than the medium judgment program. If the computer determines that the information recording medium is wrong or unauthorized, the computer is prohibited from reproducing the main program.

A program product for judging a medium, wherein the program is read before a main program is read by a computer and is stored together with the main program in the medium, and wherein the medium contains a recordable area, the program product comprising:
- unique information obtaining means for obtaining information on a unique value in regard to the medium, wherein the information on a unique value is recorded in a wobbling groove preformed in the medium;
- rightness judging means for judging rightness of the medium based on the information on the unique value;
- read permitting means for permitting reading of the main program if the medium is judged to be right by the rightness judging means;
- and
- read prohibiting means for prohibiting reading of the main program if the medium is judged to be wrong by the rightness judging means.
A method for reading a medium judgment program before reading a main program, wherein said medium judgment and main programs are recorded on an information recording medium, the method comprising the steps of:
- obtaining information on a unique value for the information recording medium, wherein the information on a unique value is recorded in a wobbling groove preformed in the information recording medium;
- judging rightness of the information recording medium based on the information on the unique value;
- permitting reading of the main program if the information recording medium is judged to be right;
- and
- prohibiting reading of the main program if the information recording medium is judged to be wrong.
A system including an information recording medium which contains a recordable area and stores a medium judgment program and a main program therein and an information processing apparatus for reading the medium judgment program before reading the main program, the system comprising:
- unique information obtaining means for obtaining information on a unique value in regard to the information recording medium based on the medium judgment program, wherein the information on a unique value is recorded in a wobbling groove preformed in the medium;
- rightness judging means for judging rightness of the information recording medium based on the information on the unique value;
- read permitting means for permitting reading of the main program if the information recording medium is judged to be right by the rightness judging means;
- and
- read prohibiting means for prohibiting reading of the main program if the information recording medium is judged to be wrong by the rightness judging means.
A program product for judging a medium, wherein the program is read before a main program is read by a computer and is stored together with the main program in a read only area in the medium, and wherein the medium contains the read only area and a recordable area, the program product comprising:
- unique information obtaining means for obtaining information on a unique value in regard to the medium, wherein the information on a unique value is recorded in a wobbling groove preformed in the medium;
- first read prohibiting means for prohibiting reading of the main program if the information on the unique value is not obtained by the unique information obtaining means;
- rightness judging means for judging rightness of the medium based on the information on the unique value;
- read permitting means for permitting reading of the main program if the medium is judged to be right by the rightness judging means;
- second read prohibiting means for prohibiting reading of the main program if the medium is judged to be wrong by the rightness judging means.
A machine-readable medium comprising a program for judging the medium, wherein the program is read before a main program is read by a computer and is stored together with the main program in a read only area of the medium, and wherein the medium contains a recordable area, and wherein the program causes the computer to perform the following steps:
- trying to obtain information on a unique value in regard to the medium, wherein the information on a unique value is recorded in a wobbling groove preformed in the medium;
- permitting reading of the main program if the information on the unique value is not obtained by the unique information obtaining means;
- judging rightness of the medium based on the information on the unique value;
- permitting reading of the main program if the medium is judged to be right by the rightness judging means;
- and
- prohibiting reading of the main program if the medium is judged to be wrong by the rightness judging means.
A method for reading a medium judgment program before reading a main program on an information recording medium, wherein the medium contains a read only area and a recordable area, and wherein the medium judgment program and the main program are stored in the read only area of the medium, the method comprising the steps of:
- trying to obtain information on a unique value in regard to the information recording medium, wherein the information on a unique value is recorded in a wobbling groove preformed in the information recording medium;
- prohibiting reading of the main program if the information on the unique value is not obtained;
- judging rightness of the information recording medium based on the information on the unique value;
- permitting reading of the main program if the information recording medium is judged to be right;
- prohibiting reading of the main program if the information recording medium is judged to be wrong.
A computer-implemented method for reading a medium judgment program before reading a main program on an information recording medium, wherein the medium contains a read only area and a recordable area, and wherein the medium judgment and main programs are stored in the read only area, the method comprising the steps of:
- trying to obtain information on a unique value in regard to the information recording medium based on the medium judgment program, wherein the information on a unique value is recorded in a wobbling groove preformed in the information recording medium;
- permitting reading of the main program if the information on the unique value is not obtained;
- judging rightness of the information recording medium based on the information on the unique value;
- permitting reading of the main program if the information recording medium is judged to be right;
- and
- prohibiting reading of the main program if the information recording medium is judged to be wrong.
A system including an information recording medium which contains a read only area and a recordable area and stores a medium judgment program and a main program in the read only area and an information processing apparatus for reading the medium judgment program before reading the main program by a computer, the system comprising:
- unique information obtaining means for obtaining information on a unique value in regard to the information recording medium based on the medium judgment program, wherein the information on the unique value is recorded in a wobbling groove preformed in the medium;
- first read prohibiting means for prohibiting reading of the main program if the information on the unique value is not obtained by the unique information obtaining means;
- rightness judging means for judging rightness of the information recording medium based on the information on the unique value;
- read permitting means for permitting reading of the main program if the information recording medium is judged to be right by the rightness judging means;
- and
- second read prohibiting means for prohibiting reading of the main program if the information recording medium is judged to be wrong by the rightness judging means.
A system including an information recording medium which contains a read only area and a recordable area and stores a medium judgment program and a main program in the read only area and an information processing apparatus for reading the medium judgment program before reading the main program by a computer, the system comprising:
