Abstract
A method of manufacturing a microlens array requires at least two fiducial marks formed on a surface of a transparent medium opposite the microlens array. Additional optical features formed on the transparent medium adjacent the microlens array enables precise locationing of fiducial marks on an opposing surface when such surface is exposed to a collimated beam of light. The location of fiducial marks using the method of the invention is about 1 micron or less.
Claims18
Method of manufacturing a microlens array having at least two fiducial marks arranged on a surface opposite said microlens array, said method comprising the steps of:
- providing a transparent medium for mountably supporting said microlens array, said transparent medium having a first surface for supporting said microlens array and a second surface opposite said first surface for receiving said at least two fiducial marks;
- forming said microlens array on said first surface of said transparent medium and forming first and second optical features on said first surface of said transparent medium adjacent to said microlens array;
- altering at least a portion of said second surface of said transparent medium;
- and,
- forming said at least two fiducial marks on said at least a portion of said second surface corresponding precisely to each one of said first and second optical features.
