- a housing configured for housing a capsule;
- a piercing member comprising at least one blade that is configured for piercing an elongated slit into the capsule in the housing;
- and
- a fluid conduit defining an intake channel in fluid communication with the housing and configured for feeding an extraction fluid into the slits in the capsule.
A beverage-machine capsule-cage, comprising:
- a housing configured for housing a capsule;
- a piercing member comprising at least one blade that is configured for piercing an elongated slit into the capsule in the housing, wherein the blade and housing are configured such that the blade pierces the capsule upon movement relative thereto in a piercing direction, and the blade has an elongated cross-section measured perpendicular to the piercing direction;
- and
- a fluid conduit defining an intake channel in fluid communication with the housing and configured for feeding an extraction fluid into the slit in the capsule.
