The invention relates to a cutting subassembly for machines by means of which panel-like workpieces which are moved continuously in a rectilinear manner are machined in order for front and/or rear edge overhangs to be cut off, having a saw unit which comprises a motor-driven saw blade and is mounted such that it can be displaced between a position above, and a position beneath, the workpiece, and having a contact element which is associated with the saw blade and has at least one contact surface, it being possible for the contact surface to be engaged against the front or rear transverse side of the workpiece and for the cutting plane of the saw blade to be oriented in alignment with the contact surface. In order to develop the cutting subassembly so as to simplify the orientation of the saw blade relative to the contact surface, it is proposed according to the invention that the saw blade is mounted such that it can be pivoted between a first operating position, in which it is oriented in alignment with the contact surface, and a second operating position, in which it is oriented obliquely in relation to the contact surface.
A cutting subassembly for machines by means of which a panel-like workpiece which is moved continuously in a rectilinear manner is machined in order for edge-material overhangs projecting beyond the front and/or rear transverse sides of the workpiece, said transverse sides being oriented substantially transversely to the movement direction of the workpiece, to be cut off, which cutting subassembly is provided on longitudinal sides of the workpiece, said longitudinal sides running parallel to the movement direction, having a saw unit which comprises a motor-driven saw blade and is mounted such that it can be displaced between a position above the workpiece and a position beneath the workpiece, and having a contact element which is associated with the saw blade and has at least one contact surface, it being possible for the contact surface to be engaged against the front or rear transverse side of the workpiece and for the cutting plane of the saw blade to be oriented in alignment with the contact surface, wherein the saw blade (32) is mounted such that it can be pivoted between a first operating position, in which it is oriented in alignment with the contact surface (51, 52), and a second operating position, in which it is oriented obliquely in relation to the contact surface (51, 52), the cutting subassembly (10) comprising adjustable stops (58, 59, 60 and 61) for orienting the saw blade (32) in its first, aligned operating position and its second, obliquely oriented operating position.
