It is an object of the present invention to allow an access to a communication apparatus other than a WWW server to be made from a WWW browser in a WWW system. On a home page controlled by an IP server, if necessary, in addition to an <A> tag for specifying the URL of information in a link destination, a telephone-number tag can also be used for specifying a telephone number assigned to equipment such as a computer capable of carrying out communication only in a predetermined protocol, a FAX-information providing apparatus, a telephone set, a host computer of PC communication and a voice-mail handling apparatus which is described as a destination link. To put it in detail, the telephone-number tag, a new tag type, is added to the HTML to give an extended HTML so that a telephone number can be specified as a link destination, allowing a link to a string of characters and an image to be prescribed. In this way, by using a telephone-number tag, equipment such as the computer, the FAX-information providing apparatus, the telephone set, the host computer of PC communication and the voice-mail handling apparatus can be specified as a link destination.
