Abstract
Alkoxylated esters of dicarboxylic or tricarboxylic acids have an anti-irritating activity measured as a reduction in intracellular leakage of sodium fluorescein of 15% or more at 1:50 dilution or 40% or more at 1:100 dilution from a test composition containing 5% of the alkoxylated ester. These alkoxylated esters are useful in cosmetic and personal care products, especially in products such as baby shampoos, hand dishwashing liquids and bubble bath preparations. A method of reducing irritation provides for application of an irritant with the alkoxylated esters to the subject in a personal care or cosmetic product.
Claims93
An alkoxylated ester of dicarboxylic or tricarboxylic acid having an anti-irritating activity, measured as a reduction in intracellular leakage of sodium fluorescein, of 15% or more at 1:50 dilution or 40% or more at 1:100 dilution from a test composition containing 5% of said alkoxylated ester.
An alkoxylated ester having the formula:
- 18
- wherein —OCR13CO— is a dicarboxylic group of an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid and R is an alkyl group, saturated or unsaturated, straight chain or branched, substituted or unsubstituted, cyclic or acyclic, having 0 to 20 carbon atoms, or
- —COR13CO— is a dicarboxylic group of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and R13 is an aromatic nucleus of the aromatic dicarboxylic acid having 6 to 20 carbon atoms;
- x1 and x2, which may be same or different, are ranging from 0 to 200;
- y1 and y2, which may be the same or different, are ranging from 0 to 200;
- R14 and R15, may be the same or different, are alkyl groups, straight chain or branched, saturated or unsaturated, substituted or unsubstituted, having 16 to 30 carbon atoms.
An alkoxylated ester having the formula (IV):
- 19
- wherein —OCR16CO— is a dicarboxylic group of aliphatic dicarboxylic acid and R16 is an alkyl group, saturated or unsaturated, straight chain or branched, substituted or unsubstituted, cyclic or acyclic, having 0 to 20 carbon atoms;
- R17 and R18 are alkyl groups, same or different, saturated or unsaturated, substituted or unsubstituted, having from 6 to 22 carbon atoms;
- x1 and x2, which may be the same or different, range from 1 to 100;
- y1 and y2, which may be the same or different, range from 0 to 100;
- and
- x1/y1 and x2/y2 ranges from 1 to 2.5.
A method of reducing irritation to a human or animal subject from a personal care or cosmetic product containing an irritant comprising the step of applying said personal care or cosmetic product to said subject, said personal care or cosmetic product including said irritant and at least one alkoxylated ester of dicarboxylic or tricarboxylic acid, said alkoxylated ester having anti-irritating activity measured as a reduction in intracellular leakage of sodium fluorescein of 15% or more at 1:50 dilution, or 40% or more at 1:100 dilution, from a test composition containing 5% of the alkoxylated ester.
