Abstract
A glass composition including from 0.10 to 2.0% yttrium oxide (e.g., Y2O3) and employing in its colorant portion iron (total iron expressed as Fe2O3), erbium (e.g., Er2O3), and/or holmium (e.g., Ho2O3). In certain embodiments, the glass may be grey in color.

A grey glass comprising:
- a base glass portion comprising:
- 10 Ingredient wt. % Y2O3 0.10-2.0% SiO2 67-75% Na2O 10-20% CaO 5-15% MgO 0-5% Al2O3 0-5% K2O 0-5% BaO 0-1%
- and a colorant portion consisting essentially of:
- 11 Ingredient wt. % total iron:
- 0.10-0.90% erbium oxide:
- 0.20-2.50% selenium:
- 0.0-2.0% cobalt oxide:
- 0.0-0.0050% titanium oxide:
- 0.0-2.0% boron oxide:
- 0.0-2.0% holmium oxide:
- 0.05-1.60% thulium oxide:
- 0.0-2.0% ytterbium oxide:
- 0.0-3.0% lutetium oxide:
- 0.0-1.0%
- wherein the grey glass has a dominant wavelength in the range of from 435 nm to 570 nm.
A glass comprising:
- a base glass portion comprising:
- 14 Ingredient wt. % Y2O3 0.10-2.0% SiO2 67-75% Na2O 10-20% CaO 5-15% MgO 0-5% Al2O3 0-5% K2O 0-5% BaO 0-1%
- and a colorant portion comprising:
- 15 Ingredient wt. % total iron:
- 0.10-0.90% erbium oxide:
- 0.20-2.50% selenium:
- 0.0-2.0% cobalt oxide:
- 0.0-0.005% titanium oxide:
- 0.0-2.0% boron oxide:
- 0.0-2.0% holmium oxide:

A glass comprising from about 0.10 to 2.0% by weight Y2O3, and wherein the glass has a colorant portion comprising:
- 17 Ingredient wt. % total iron:
- 0.10-2.0% erbium oxide:
- 0.20-2.50% holmium oxide:
- 0.05-1.60%.
Glass comprising:
- 18 Ingredient wt. % yttrium oxide:
- 0.10-2.0% total iron:
- 0.10-2.0% erbium oxide:
- 0.20-2.50 % holmium oxide:
- 0.05-1.60%.
Glass formed so as to have a dominant wavelength in the range of from 435 nm to 570 nm, and an excitation purity (Pe) of no greater than about 4.5%, and wherein the glass comprises 0.10 to 2.0% yttrium oxide, and a colorant portion of the glass comprises iron oxide and at least two different lanthanide oxides, where a sum total of all of the lanthanide oxides in the glass is from 1.0 to 5.0%, by weight.
