Abstract
A system and method for removing SOx and particulate matter from an emission control device receiving exhaust gases from an engine is provided. The method includes adding a reductant to the exhaust gases to increase a temperature of the emission control device above a threshold temperature. The method further includes ceasing adding the reductant to the exhaust gases to remove particulate matter from the device. The method further includes adding additional reductant to the exhaust gases to remove SOx from the device.
Claims20
A method for removing SOx and particulate matter from an emission control device receiving exhaust gases from an engine, the method comprising:
- adding a reductant to said exhaust gases to increase a temperature of said emission control device above a threshold temperature;
- ceasing adding said reductant to said exhaust gases to remove particulate matter from said device;
- and
- adding additional reductant to said exhaust gases to remove SOx from said device.
A method for removing SOx and particulate matter from an emission control device receiving exhaust gases from an engine, the method comprising:
- iteratively supplying a reductant to said exhaust to remove SOx from the device and then ceasing the supply of reductant to said exhaust gases to remove particulate matter from said device.
A system for removing SOx and particulate matter from an emission control device receiving exhaust gases from an engine, the method comprising:
- a reductant valve selectively supplying reductant to said exhaust gases responsive to a first signal;
- a throttle valve controlling flow of said exhaust gases to said device responsive to a second signal;
- and
- a controller operably connected to said reductant valve and said throttle valve, said controller generating said first and second signals, said controller configured to add said reductant to said exhaust gases to increase a temperature of said emission control device above a threshold temperature, said controller further configured to cease adding said reductant to said exhaust gases to remove particulate matter from said device, said controller further configured to add additional reductant to said exhaust gases to remove SOx from said device.
An article of manufacture, comprising:
- a computer storage medium having a computer program encoded therein for removing SOx and particulate matter from an emission control device receiving exhaust gases from an engine, the computer storage medium comprising:
- code for adding a reductant to said exhaust gases to increase a temperature of said emission control device above a threshold temperature;
- code for ceasing adding said reductant to said exhaust gases to remove particulate matter from said device;
- and
- code for adding additional reductant to said exhaust gases to remove SOx from said device.
