Abstract

In order to improve the starting of a dielectric barrier discharge lamp it is proposed to provide means for igniting an auxiliary discharge inside the exhaust tube (5) of the lamp.

Dielectric barrier discharge lamp comprising a discharge vessel having at least one tipped-off exhaust tube, the discharge vessel being filled with a filling gas, main electrodes and at least one means for igniting an auxiliary discharge inside said exhaust tube.
