Support for a portable computer having a display flap which is pivotable relative to a keyboard portion. For supporting the keyboard portion, there is provided a support structure. A bearing structure projects downwards from the support structure for keeping the display of the computer at a distance above a face on which the support stands. A document support supports a document extending above the support structure. A display of a portable computer can thereby be placed at an ergonomically favorable height above the worktop, while loss of space for documents is limited and documents to be consulted can be supported at an ergonomically favorable height above the worktop. A method for the use of a portable computer is likewise described.
